An Illinois woman was arrested earlier this month after she allegedly accused her neighbors of practicing witchcraft and lit fire at their front door using rubbing alcohol.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis said that 38-year-old Kimberley S. Brown was charged with residential arson and aggravated battery of a police officer, the Lake and McHenry County Scanner said.
Lewis said officers responded to a neighbor dispute early in the evening on August 4 and learned that Brown had been beating on her neighbors’ front door in Zion, accusing them of witchcraft and trying to get inside.
When that failed, she set the fire. Officers reported seeing the damage to the door and the wood beneath the door.
The victims had also had cell phone video showing Brown with the rubbing alcohol, screaming that they were witches. They told police that when they opened the door after the fire was burning, Brown tried to pour the rubbing alcohol on them, according to Lewis.
Brown had returned to her home by that time, and when officers tried to speak with her, she refused to open the door. When they did get inside and tried to arrest her, she slapped one of the officers.
The officers said she admitted to setting the fire and made reference to “killing all the witches.”
In court, Brown asked to represent herself. She was ordered held on a $500,000 bond and was still in jail on Sunday.
