Florida Mom Admits Strangling 13-Year-Old Son to Death: Cops

A 37-year-old Florida mother was arrested on Monday after she admitted she strangled her 13-year-old son.

Osceola County deputies were called to the home in St. Cloud by another family member who lived there and found the boy dead.

Sheriff Marco Lopez said he had markings on his neck that were consistent with being strangled and the Jasmin Kennedy “spontaneously stated that she killed her son” to medics and detectives.

“According to our deputies, she had been choking him on the bed,” Lopez said.

Kennedy, who has been charged with domestic battery strangulation, child neglect, and aggravated child abuse, is cooperating with investigators, Lopez said. It’s not yet clear, however, why she did it.

The sheriff said further charges are pending the medical examiner’s confirmation of cause of death.

“It’s always a tragedy when someone so young is taken, regardless how it’s done … Their life was just taken from them, and they haven’t even begun to live. It just hits home, especially when you have children,” Lopez said.

Lopez said that the boy’s grandmother, the grandmother’s boyfriend, and a 5-year-old sibling also live at the home. Deputies responded to the home in January of this year, he said, but it was not connected with harming the children.
