According to an indictment obtained by ABC 9, McGrath is accused of having inappropriate sexual encounters with a child on May 1, 2022. That unnamed victim was between the age of 13 and 18.
While on paid suspension, McGrath was ordered not to have contact with students, teachers, or other staff members.
Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that McGrath taught “10th grade geometry at Central High School since 2020” and was voted “Teacher of the Year” in 2021. Spokesperson Steve Doremus told the Times in an emailed statement that McGrath no longer works for the school.
Earlier this year, another Hamilton County Schools educator, identified as first grade teacher, Duane Sanders, was charged with 10 counts of child sexual abuse.
Following her arrest, McGrath was given a $10,000 bond. Her next court hearing has been scheduled for September 6.
