Residents of a Pennsylvania neighborhood are being evacuated as police respond to an active shooting situation, according to emerging reports.
WTAE reported that hundreds of gunshots were heard in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Garfield. As a result, officials said to avoid the area.
“This is an extremely active situation with shots continuing to be fired,” Pittsburgh Public Safety tweeted.
Sources told KDKA that police officers were serving an eviction notice when a resident opened fire. The home was reportedly bought at a sheriff’s sale and cops were there to remove someone who had been squatting.
A spokesperson said an Allegheny County sheriff was injured while trying to avoid gunfire. He is expected to survive.
According to KDKA, the suspect reportedly shot down two police drones. SWAT is at the scene.
