Developing: Police Find Child’s Body at Waste Station While Searching for Missing 2-year-old Georgia Boy

Georgia police recovered a child’s body Wednesday, who they believe to be a missing 2-year-old East Point boy who hasn’t been seen in seven days.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, East Point police believe they found the body of J’Asiah Mitchell at the East Point Transfer Station on South Martin Street. The discovery comes after days of police and volunteers searching land and water, from East Point to Griffin.

Police said the victim’s body has been out in the elements for several days and a medical examiner is now working to identify the body and cause of death.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police said J’Asiah was initially reported kidnapped just before 11:30 p.m. last Wednesday by his father, Artavious North, 23. North allegedly said someone took the child during an armed robbery in front of an apartment complex in Panthersville, in DeKalb County.

Police, however, said they’ve found no evidence of the robbery and no evidence that North was in DeKalb County on Wednesday. North was subsequently arrested and charged with making false statements and false report of a crime.

He remains behind bars and is considered a person of interest in his son’s disappearance. It’s not yet clear whether he’ll face additional charges.
