A 1-year-old Nebraska girl reportedly died on Monday after she was left in a hot car at her daycare.
WOWT reported that Ra’Miyah Worthington died in a van registered to the owner of Future Child Development Center II in Omaha. While Worthington’s two siblings were removed from the van, Worthington was not.
Worthington was found unresponsive in the van and transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities have not said how long she was left in the van — though her parents said her body temperature was 109 degrees by the time she reached the hospital.
“How did you forget my baby?” her mother told WOWT. “The daycare has an app. They’ll tell you stuff with their kids throughout the day. She was never checked in. Only one of the three we sent was checked in, so put two and two together. You had to have my baby left in this car since this morning.”
KMTV reported that the driver of the van, Ryan Williams, 62, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with child negligence resulting in death.
“When I told them my baby died they [the daycare] said, ‘That baby didn’t die,’ and hung up…” Worthington’s mother told the news outlet.
The daycare is closed as authorities investigate Worthington’s death.
According to No Heat Stroke, Worthington is the 19th child to die in a hot car this year. In 2022, 33 children died of vehicular heatstroke.
