A Virginia man was arrested and charged with his mother’s murder on Wednesday, taken into custody at a nearby school.
Susan Ackermann Tabor, 67, was found stabbed to death inside the home she shared with her son shortly after 3 p.m., the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office said.
Andrew Russell Tabor, 41, showed up at Stuart Elementary School just prior to the discovery of the body and was confronted by the school resource officer on duty at the time. Information obtained by the officer led deputies to the home, about 600 feet away, and the body, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.
Smith said Tabor was not armed when he arrived at the school and was stopped by the SRO outside the building.
Tabor has been charged with first degree murder, according to Smith and Commonwealth’s Attorney Dayna Kendrick Bobbitt.
An autopsy is being conducted, the sheriff said. No further information was available.
