Ohio police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that left five members of a Lake Township family dead, including three children.
Uniontown police identified the dead as Jason Dunham, 46; Melissa Dunham, 42; Renee Dunham, 15; Amber Dunham, 12, and Evan Dunham, 9.
Police said they were called to the home Thursday night for a welbeing check and found the five dead from gunshot wounds.
“This incident is being investigated as a domestic dispute that turned deadly,” the department said. “At this time, it is believed there are no other persons involved in this incident.”
They described the incident as “a quadruple homicide, suicide.”
Neighbors told the Canton Repository that the Dunhams had moved into their home nearly 20 years ago and that there’d never been any problems, although the husband could be controlling.
Lake Local School District Superintendent Kevin Tobin said the two girls were a ninth grader in the band and a seventh grader, and the boy was in the third grade.
“We alerted our parents and our staff (about the tragedy),” Tobin said. “And we have counselors and others meeting (with kids) as we speak. We are working through this as calm and compassionate as we can.”
Tobin said the school band was especially impacted.
“They are a family and it is almost two years to the day when we lost another band student after surgery,” Tobin said. “It’s a very, very tragic incident and we will just rally as a school community and as Lake Local community.”
