A family of four — including two boys, ages 1 and 3 — were found fatally stabbed in a New York apartment in a suspected case of murder-suicide.
Sources told the New York Post that a 41-year-old man, his 40-year-old wife, and their two sons were found slain in the Manhattan apartment after the woman’s father and a relative had not heard from them since early Sunday. The two boys were reportedly discovered with stab wounds in the living room; their mother was located in the hallway with a neck laceration; and their father was found in a bedroom lying next to a knife.
According to WABC, the decedents were identified as Lucien and Calvin Lopez, 3 and 1, Alexandra Witek, 40, and Edwin Lopez, 41. Reports indicated that Edwin Lopez was the apartment building’s superintendent.
Authorities were called to the scene after family members drilled off a lock and saw blood in the apartment, according to the New York Post.
The New York Times reported that three knives were recovered from the scene, including the one next to the deceased man.
Sources told the New York Post that Edwin Lopez had no prior criminal history. According to WABC, he recently gave notice to the co-op board that he accepted another job.
The investigation is ongoing.
