New Jersey police are investigating after a 5-year-old child was found dead in a bathtub in a Newark apartment.

The child was found unresponsive just after 7 p.m., the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.  The child was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead, WNBC reported.

The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine cause of death. The child has not been identified.
