Update

According to the East Point Police Department, the father of J’Asiah Mitchell, identified as Artavious North, will be charged with murder in connection to the victim’s death.

Original Story

On Thursday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner officially identified the body found in a Georgia garbage facility as 2-year-old J’Asiah Mitchell, Fox 5 Atlanta reports.

East Point police found the body at the East Point Transfer Station on South Martin Street on August 22. The discovery came days after police and volunteers searching land and water, from East Point to Griffin.

It took several days to identify J’Asiah since his body had been out in the elements for several days.

J’Asiah Mitchell and Artavious North/DeKalb County Police Department

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police said J’Asiah was initially reported kidnapped by his father, Artavious North, 23. North allegedly said someone took the child during an armed robbery in front of an apartment complex in Panthersville, in DeKalb County.

Police, however, said they’ve found no evidence of the robbery and no evidence that North was in DeKalb County on Wednesday. North was subsequently arrested and charged with making false statements and false report of a crime.
