An Arizona man was arrested Sunday and charged with multiple counts related to the death of a one-year-old boy.
Police in Surprise responded to a call about an unresponsive baby at about 8 a.m. Saturday and attempted life-saving measures until he was taken to a hospital, KNXV reported. The boy died Sunday morning at about 2 a.m.
When the hospital found a narcotic in the child’s system, police arrested Roderick Begay, charging him with manslaughter, child abuse, endangerment, and a weapons charge, according to KSAZ.
“This tragic investigation is ongoing and we will not release the name of the child at this time,” police said. “We do not expect any further updates until results of the Medical Examiners report are known.”
KNXV reported that police also found narcotics in the home.
Police did not explain the relationship between Begay and the baby or say if anyone else was present at the home.
According to jail records, Begay is being held on a $150,000 bond and is due in court on Friday.
