Child Care Provider Charged With Death of Toddler

An Iowa child care provider has been charged with the death of a toddler boy earlier this year .

Hannah Priest, 28, was arrested Friday and charged with child endangerment causing death after state officials revealed that Sebastian Jespersen died of “brain trauma consistent with inflicted trauma,” KCCI reported.

Emergency medical services were called to an Emmetsburg home on January 19 and found the 23-month-old boy unresponsive. He was taken initially to Palo Alto County Hospital and then to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. He died on January 24.

According to court documents, Priest told police she was “frustrated with (him) around nap time because he had not yet gone to the bathroom that day.”

“Priest stated that she set (him) into his cot by his shoulders and may not have known her own strength when doing so,” the documents said.

Priest is being held on a $50,000 bond.
