Pennsylvania law enforcement announced two more sightings of fugitive murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, who escaped custody Thursday from Chester County Prison, and reportedly broke into a home and took food.
During a Tuesday morning news conference, Pennsylvania State Police released released two still images taken by a wildlife trail camera Monday night, at the Longwood Gardens in Chester County, ABC 6 reports.
Since Longwood Gardens is considered outside of the current “established perimeter,” police are now extending the search to include Route 1 and its areas. The black and white photos show the suspect walking northbound on the trail at around at around 8:21 p.m., then walking southbound through the same area at around 9:33 p.m.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Cavalcante was previously was seen on footage around 12:30 a.m. near a home in Pocopson Township on September 1, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said. The home is about 1.5 miles from Chester State Prison.
A clip from the recording shows Cavalcante wearing pants, a light-colored T-shirt and white shoes, in addition to carrying a backpack, according to Fox 29.
“I flicked the light five times to let him know we know we were home, and he flicked the lights back,” homeowner Ryan Drummond said, according to WRAL. “It was a terrifying moment. I looked at my wife and said, ‘He’s in the house. Call 911.'”
Drummond added that the fugitive took snap peas and produce from their home before fleeing.
Police say there have been several sightings of the fugitive, who has, so far, managed to escape each time.
Another sighting happened Sunday afternoon when a state trooper reportedly spotted Cavalcante in Chester County and but was unable to capture him, despite a chase, given the distance between them, Lt. Col. George Bivens with the Pennsylvania State Police said Monday.
Cavalcante was sentenced in August for murdering his former girlfriend in front of her children in 2021. Officials in Brazil, where he is from, are also seeking him in connection with an unrelated death in 2017.
Authorities have deployed helicopters, drones and search dogs in efforts to find Cavalcante. Hundreds of officers have been dispatched to the area, including SWAT teams, local and state police and the U.S. Marshals Service, CBS Philadelphia reports.
Last week, Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said law enforcement believe the fugitive is attempting to run south and have no evidence that he is being helped by anyone else. Residents who live in the region are being urged to lock their doors and remain inside while the manhunt continues.
Community members previously were asked to review home security camera footage and to check buildings on their properties for anything unusual and to assess whether anything is missing.
“Law enforcement is requesting that residents in the area remain indoors at this time. Lock your vehicles. Review your surveillance cameras and contact police if you observe anything suspicious. Danelo Cavalcante is considered an extremely dangerous man. Please remain vigilant in assisting with this search. If you see this individual do not approach him. Call 911 immediately,” Ryan said, according to WPVI-TV.
A $10,00 reward is being offered for information that results in Cavalcante’s capture.
