A 2-year-old girl was found dead on Tuesday in a car parked outside a Florida church.
WJXT reported that the girl was discovered at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville Beach, which provided preschool services during the day. It is unclear who was responsible for the child and how long she was in the vehicle.
Jacksonville Beach Police spokesperson Tonya Tator told WJAX that the girl was pronounced dead after they got a call about an unresponsive toddler in the church’s parking lot. Police said heat played a role in her death.
Police also said that witnesses were interviewed. However, no charges have been filed.
According to No Heat Stroke, the 2-year-old girl is the 25th child to die in a hot car this year. In 2022, 33 children died of vehicular heatstroke.
