Alabama killer, Mason Sisk, 18, will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the murder of five family members, including a baby and two young children, News 19 reports.
Limestone County Circuit Judge Chad Wise handed down the sentence Thursday, calling the crime “draped in unmitigated evil.” This verdict followed Sisk’s conviction in April on multiple capital murder counts for the chilling 2019 killings of his parents and three younger siblings.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Sisk, who was 14 at the time, murdered his family members at their Elkmont home in September 2019. After the shooting, Sisk called police at around 1:15 a.m., claiming he heard gunshots upstairs.
When questioned by investigators, Sisk changed his story and admitted to killing his family. He then helped officers locate the murder weapon on the side of a nearby road.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Young later identified the victims as Sisk’s father and stepmother, John Sisk, 38, and Mary Sisk, 35; half-brothers Kane, 6, and Coleson, 6 months; and Aurora, his 5-year-old half-sister.
During a pretrial hearing, an audio recording played to court detailed the defendant describing how he was “fed up” with his parents arguing. Prosecutors said Sisk has anger issues and tried before to kill his mother by lacing her coffee.
“Yeah, they argue a lot, and I got fed up with it,” he said. “And the kids were going through a lot.”
Mason Sisk’s cousin previously told WVLT that Sisk learned Mary wasn’t his biological mother shortly before the murders. The cousin added that Sisk began acting out a year prior to the murders, in the form of vandalizing his school and burning animals alive.
Loved ones said that Mary Sisk, a special education teacher, was the best thing to ever happen to the defendant. The teen reportedly babysat his three younger siblings and had a close relationship with his father.
“I’ve prosecuted a lot of people in my career, and I can tell you that out of all of those people, only four out of five people scare the hell out of me and he’s at the top of my list,” Limestone County District Attorney Brian C.T. Jones said in a written statement.
“Mason Sisk is clearly one of the most dangerous people who will ever be sentenced in Limestone County.”
The judge added that the “circumstances of the Sisk case are much more appalling” when compared to other juvenile offenders who were given life sentences.
