On Wednesday, North Carolina authorities identified a woman whose body was found in a lake last month.
On August 29, a boater discovered a body floating in Lake Jordan. Chatham County police, who suspect foul play, used fingerprint analysis to identify the decedent as Hadeel Hikmat, 34, according to The News & Observer.
On Friday, police searched two homes in connection with Hikmat’s death. WRAL reported that one of the homes is in Apex, where Hikmat is from, and the other is in Raleigh.
Hikmat’s brother told the news outlet that the Raliegh residence that was searched belongs to her in-laws. He also said his late sister moved here last year from Iraq.
It remains unclear how Hikmat died or how her body ended up in the lake. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-2911.
