Teacher Murdered With Dog Was Helping Friend out of Abusive Relationship

A Texas woman was allegedly murdered on Saturday while protecting her friend from her abusive boyfriend.

Dimitri Humphrey, 28, allegedly fatally shot Shantavia Reddick, 26, and her dog in an apartment parking garage. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting stemmed from Reddick trying to help her friend end their relationship with Humphrey, according to KHOU.

Humphey’s girlfriend was not harmed. KTRK reported that Humphrey remains on the run as he faces unrelated felony charges.

Humphrey reportedly left the scene in a white Jeep Wrangler with Texas license plates reading TFN-4278.

Reddick, who recently got her master’s degree, was a third-grade teacher at Smith Elementary School. Murder charges against Humphrey are pending.
