A 10-year-old West Virginia boy was found dead on Sunday, hours after he disappeared while squirrel hunting with his grandfather, was reportedly shot.
Mason County police said Wyatt Eaves-Nibert was found dead of a single gunshot wound in the Salt Creek area after he and his grandfather got separated in Point Pleasant on Saturday. The grandfather was in an ATV accident while searching for Eaves-Nibert, leading responders to learn of the boy’s disappearance, according to Metro News.
The grandfather reportedly told responders that Eaves-Nibert had vanished an hour earlier. Metro News reported that the boy disappeared with a .22 rifle.
Officials have not said whether they suspect foul play in this case. The boy’s body was sent to the state’s medical examiner’s office.
