On Wednesday, a baby was found dead in the bathroom of a New Mexico hospital where a 16-year-old girl was undergoing treatment.
The baby was reportedly found in the restroom area of the girl’s room at Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital. The teen’s mother was at the hospital with her at the time, according to KRQE.
The Hobbs News-Sun reported that the 16-year-old girl was discharged from the hospital and never mentioned delivering a baby in the bathroom. Housekeeping discovered the deceased baby — which KNTV reported was located in a trash can.
It is unclear whether the teen or her mother will face criminal charges. The baby’s body was sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy.
