A CVS manager in Arizona was killed last week after confronting a suspected shoplifter who allegedly responded by shooting him in the store.
On September 7, manager Michael Jacobs, 49, and Jared Sevey, 38, reportedly got into an argument about shoplifting at a Mesa CVS. Sevey returned to the store with a gun and asked a worker for Jacobs, who he then shot several times, according to KPHO.
Following the initial altercation, Sevey allegedly told his daughter to go to his grandmother’s house if he did not come back home. Before the shooting, Sevey also instructed the CVS worker to get everyone out of the building, KPHO reported.
Bystanders reportedly witnessed Sevey shooting at Jacobs as he tried to flee.
According to KPNX, Jacobs’ family learned of his death after driving to the CVS when he did not come home.
Sevey allegedly told police that he shot Jacobs because he was “tired of being bullied” and it was “the last straw.”
Sevey — who was barred from having a gun due to prior convictions — is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and tampering with evidence.
