A 14-year-old Florida boy was arrested Saturday after he allegedly shot and killed his mother, shot her boyfriend five times, and tried to shoot his older brother.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said his office received calls about a shooting at about the same time Saturday after that they received calls about a boy running down the street carrying a gun.
Deputies contacted the suspect, who repeatedly pointed the gun at his head and threatened to shoot himself, Chronister said.
After a tense few minutes, deputies convinced him to lower the weapon, but when he against went to retrieve it, they shot his hand with a rubber bullet.
“They used their remarkable intuition and expertise to determine this suspect was not looking to harm them, but was contemplating suicide,” Chronister said.
Meanwhile, authorities responded to the call about the shooting and found a man, shot several times, who had fled to a neighbor’s for help. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
At the home, they found a woman dead on the driveway of her home.
Chronister described the scene as “one that nightmares are made of.”
“This family’s lives have been forever changed,” he said. “They lost a mother. This mother’s life is over.”
The brother told detectives that he heard his mother and boyfriend arguing and then heard gunshots. When he came to see what was going on, his younger brother pointed the weapon at him. He fled the scene.
Chronister said the older brother was not hurt. He did not provided details about what led to the attack or say what charges the boy faces.
