A Chicago family of four, found dead over the weekend, has been identified, according to Romeoville police.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, police initially identified the adult victims only, during a Monday news conference, as Alberto Rolon and Zoraida Bartolomei, both in their 30s. They later identified the two children as Adriel, 10, and Diego, 7. All of the victims were found deceased inside residence in the the 500 block of Concord Avenue.
“It is not a murder-suicide,” Deputy Chief Chris Burne said during Monday’s conference. “Right now, we are investigating it as a murder.”
Police performed a welfare check at the home around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, after Alberto failed to show up for work at 6 a.m. and was unreachable by phone all day.
“A member of the family did not show up for work at 6 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, September 17 and did not respond to phone calls throughout the day, resulting in family members becoming concerned,” police said.
Officers discovered the bodies of the victims, along with three dogs, with fatal gunshot wounds. The shootings likely occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday night and 5 a.m. Sunday morning, police said.
As of Tuesday, the killer is still at large.
Family members told DailyMail that they don’t know anyone who would want to hurt the victims or any reason why someone would kill them.
Zoraida’s mother, Lydia, said the family had just recently moved to Romeoville after purchasing their home for around $250,000 five months ago. She said the last time spoke to her daughter was over the weekend, when the family was settling down to watch a movie.
Neighbors told ABC7 Chicago that although the family was quiet and kept to themselves, Alberto worked at a beverage factory and would often hand out beer in the neighborhood, since he did not drink.
“It’s so sad, you know,” neighbor Carol Love said. ” But nice people. They didn’t bother anybody. I hope they find out who did it.”
Police said that they do not believe the public is in danger and due to the time that elapsed since the killings, they didn’t ask the community to take shelter.
“Due to the time frame that has gone by, more than 18 hours from the time we were contacted, we are not asking anybody to shelter in place. We are not actively looking for anybody in the area,” Burne said.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Romeoville police at 815-886-7219.
