Investigators in Oregon have identified an infant found dead at a recycling center a decade ago — and have arrested the baby’s father in connection with the death.
A grand jury earlier this week indicted Alnath Omar Oliver, 53, on two counts of second degree manslaughter, two counts of ifrst degree criminal mistreatment, third degree rape, and concealing the birth of an infant, KGW reported.

Oliver was taken into custody on Thursday by US Marshals and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
The infant, dubbed “Baby Precious” at the time, was found at a recycling center on Swan Island on May 28, 2013, and the county medical examiner determined the newborn’s death was a homicide. Despite an intense search for the baby’s parents, the case went cold.
It was sent to the Portland Police Bureau’s cold case unit in 2019, and detectives there set to work. Forensic genealogy provided early clues, but required another year and a half before the detectives found the girl’s parents and learned her real name — Amara.
“While we continue to mourn the death of baby Amara, we hope this significant announcement helps our community with the healing process from this tragedy,” said Chief Chuck Lovell in a statement. “I want to express my appreciation for the tenacity of the investigators in this case, and the determination they had to seek justice for ‘Baby Precious.’”
