Two Nevada teens appeared in court on Thursday, more than a month after they allegedly ran over a man in an intentional hit-and-run.
Jesus Ayala, 18, the alleged driver who was 17 at the time, and Jzamir Keys, 16, have been charged as adults for murdering retired police chief Andreas Probst, 64, as he rode on his bike in Las Vegas on August 14. Ayala told arresting officers that he was going to get a “slap on the wrist” for the deadly hit-and-run, according to KTLA.
“You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you,” Ayala allegedly also stated.
Keys, the passenger, allegedly recorded himself and Ayala laughing after driving away from the scene. Police initially did not charge Ayala with murder, but the video — which surfaced two weeks after Probst’s death — gave them enough evidence to do so, KLAS reported.
The video allegedly also shows the teens running into a vehicle moments before striking Probst. Sources told the news outlet that teens crashed two stolen cars into one another near a shopping plaza an hour after the fatal hit-and-run.
Ayala and Keys, who are also charged with attempted murder and battery, remain in custody. They are due back in court on September 26.
