Three people have been sentenced after officials at an Australian prison found the wreckage of a drone carrying porn and $75,000 USD worth of drugs near the facility’s exercise yard, The Guardian reports.
On Friday, a judge handed down sentences to 27-year-old Cheyenne Anniki Petryszyn, 33-year-old Cory Jay Sinclair Keleher and 37-year-old Bradley William Knudson for their roles in the incident.
The prosecutions stem from April 1, 2022, when staff at a prison in Queensland came upon a drone that had crashed.
Near the wreckage, a bag was found containing 79 strips of buprenorphine, which is an opioid that can garner nearly $1,000 per strip. Also in the bag was 0.94 grams of methamphetamine and a USB drive containing pornographic files.
Petryszyn pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated supply of dangerous drugs in a correctional facility, according to the newspaper. She was sentenced to 16 months but is eligible for parole immediately.
Petryszyn had been on parole when the drone crashed and was forced to serve an 11-year-old sentence for drug trafficking from a previous conviction. She is is one of several people accused of murder in connection with a fatal shooting in October 2022, according to the Australian Associated Press.
A prosecutor told the court that Petryszyn was responsible for obtaining the drugs for Knudson. The pair had attempted to speak in code on the phone about the plot, but at one point, Petryszyn said during a call that “everything crashed and burned,” according to The Guardian.
Keleher and Knudson also pleaded guilty. Keleher was sentenced to 16 months and Knudson received two years, however both were granted release on parole at Friday’s court hearing.
