A toddler and two adults were shot dead Saturday night in an apparent dispute over the sale of a dog.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief J.D. Stronko said a group of five people, including a 3-year-old child, travelled to an apartment complex on the south side of the city at about 10 p.m. “to conduct the sale of a dog.”
Stronko said the shooting took place in a breezeway between two buildings of the complex, and four of the five people were shot, two adults and the 3-year-old fatally.
Witnesses told police they saw two men leaving the area after the shooting in a black sedan.
Stronko said that investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened and led to the shooting. They have not released the names of the victims.
