A 37-year-old woman, her teenage daughter, and a dog were found dead in a Brooklyn apartment building on Monday.
Police were called at about 2:30 p.m. to the apartment in East Flatbush, WNBC reported, after a man called to say he had discovered the bodies.
Officers found the woman face up in the living room, her face slashed, and the 14-year-old girl was face down with head injuries. The dog, they said, had a bag over its head.
According to the New York Times, the woman was stabbed multiple times, and the girl and the dog were found lying next to her.
WABC reported that police were not looking for a suspect and said that the stabbing appeared to be from a domestic dispute. According to the New York Daily News, police said they were considering the possibility of a murder-suicide.
Neighbors told WNBC they had called police on Friday after hearing screaming from the apartment.
“We heard screaming, the dog whimpering. I vividly remember telling 911, it sounds like someone was getting killed upstairs,” Steve Schor said.
Schor said officers came to the apartment, but it’s not known if they spoke with anyone at the apartment.
The 38-year-old man who found the bodies told police he hadn’t heard from the family since Friday and broke down the door Monday afternoon to get in.
Police said they were questioning him.
Investigators have not released the names of the victims.
