CrimeOnline’s Nancy Grace told Inside Edition that she’s heartbroken to learn that beloved Colorado mother Suzanne Morphew’s remains were so deteriorated that she had to be identified through her cancer port.
“We want justice,” Grace said. “In this case, the murder of a beautiful woman that had been valiantly fighting cancer. It just broke my heart to learn that one of the ways they identified her was through her cancer port.”
Grace now hopes evidence will help determine what happened to Suzanne, given the state of decomposition she was found in.
“They were skeletonized, which means we’re not going to get any soft tissue. I’m waiting to find out what, if any, clothing was found. Is she wearing that pajamas that Barry Morphew said he last saw her in?”
“Barry Morphew was arrested and charged before,” she added. “That case was dropped. But that was before a body was found. What will happen now is up to the prosecutor.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the remains were discovered on September 22, “in the area of Moffat in Saguache County.” On Wednesday, the El Paso County Coroner positively identified the remains as Suzanne Morphew.
Saguache County Coroner Tom Perrin said the bones were found scattered in a remote, dry desert field of sagebrush and natural grasses and appeared to have been buried in a shallow grave before they were scattered, the Denver Gazette reported.
Perrin said he was called to collect the remains on Friday and take them to El Paso County for an autopsy. They were positively identified on Wednesday.
The CBI said the remains were found during an unrelated search. Sources told the Gazette that the location was about 30 to 40 minutes from the Morphew home in Chaffee County but would not provide further details.
Barry Morphew maintains his innocence and has not been charged again in his wife’s death, although prosecutors do have that option.
