Police say there is “substantial evidence” linking accused Long Island Serial killer Rex Heuermann to another victim found deceased at New York’s Gilgo Beach.
According to a bail application submitted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, 59-year-old Heuermann is the prime suspect in the death Maureen Brainard-Barnes, a Connecticut woman who vanished in 2007, and considered the first victim in the “Gilgo Four.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, police arrested Heuermann in July for the deaths of three of the “Gilgo Four” women. Their bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010. All four women were buried in burlap sacks.
Heuermann has been charged with six counts of murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27.
Heuermann appeared for a status hearing Wednesday at the Suffolk County court, where a Suffolk County Police Department spokesperson said “there is no update” yet on whether Heuermann will face charges in Brainard-Barnes’ death, according to CT Post.
CBS News reports that Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said, however, that they are stilling working on the case, along with other victims found deceased in the Gilgo Beach area.
“We’re working on the fourth Gilgo victim and now we have expanded our investigation to include other bodies that were recovered in that area,” Tierney said.
Heuermann pleaded not guilty at his arraignment earlier this and is due back in court November 15.
He remains behind bars at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility without bail.
