“That had become an emotional issue between the couple last night. He arrived here at this location, confronted her, and opened fire on her,” Gonzalez said. “We always say that during that time when a couple is splitting up or talking divorce, it can be oftentimes the most volatile. In this case, this proved to be true once again.”
Family members said Navarrete was not supposed to know where his estranged wife was living.
“It appears from what we are gathering that this was meant to be a safe place for her. I don’t know how he would have found out or if someone told him, but when somebody’s hellbent on finding some, they ultimately will,” Gonzalez said.
Investigators said at least 14 shots were fired. When deputies arrived, they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Gonzalez said another person was at the scene at the time of the shooting and gave deputies a description of the suspect and the white, 2002 GMC pickup he was driving. The truck has a Texas license plate PBV 3006.
Anyone with information about Navarrete’s whereabouts should call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
