‘Jane Doe’ Mom of 3 Identified as Murdered Florida Woman Found Decades Ago, Cop on Hunt for Killer

A woman found murdered in Florida more than three decades ago has been identified as a mother of three, but police are still working to find the killer, Fox News reports.

This week, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced that remains discovered on April 23, 1990, belong to Roberta Lynn Weber. A passerby walking on a wooded trail in Daytona Beach came upon the remains, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

Weber, who was known as Bobbie, was about 32 years old when she was killed.

“Her remains were not identifiable, and no clothing or personal property could be found,” the sheriff’s office said. “Her DNA was collected and entered into a national database, but there were no matches.”

Authorities are still investigating the killing and have yet to announce any suspects or arrests, according to WESH-TV.

Investigators made the positive identification using forensic genealogy. A laboratory working with the sheriff’s office and county medical examiner developed a family tree using the victim’s DNA. Eventually, analysis of the family tree revealed a sister living in Missouri, who told investigators that she had not seen Roberta since 1989.

“She indicated Roberta had divorced her husband in 1989 and disappeared,” the sheriff’s office said. “She believed she was either deceased or living in California.”

Police also interviewed Weber’s three children and they said they had not heard from their mom since the same year, 1989.
