An Ohio mother and her 19-year-old daughter have been indicted on murder and other charges after police found a newborn wrapped in plastic and stuffed into a five-gallon bucket in the back of an SUV.
Basma Abdul Alkelezli, 36, and her daughter Hanan Ahmad Al Jabouli were initially arrested on September 20 and charged with abuse of a corpse, CrimeOnline reported. Court documents said that Alkelezli put her newborn son into the bag and told her daughter to dispose of him. Al Jabouli put the baby into the bucket and then the vehicle.
According to WSYX, Al Jabouli apparently called 911 and reported that her mother wasn’t waking up. Medical transport arrived just before 8 a.m. and took Alkelezli to the hospital, where medical workers determined she had given birth. Police went back to the home and searched for the child before finding him in the vehicle in the back yard, Hilliard Division of Police Chief Mike Woods said.
Officers began CPR on the baby and then took him to a children’s hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The indictments, returned Friday, charge Alkelezli with aggravated murder, murder, involuntary manslaughter, strangulation or suffocation, two counts of endangering children, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.
