Police in Georgia arrested a suspect in connection with an Atlanta-area mother found dead after disappearing Friday.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, 48-year-old Aimee Lafakis, of Brookhaven, was last heard from early Friday morning. She spoke to her ex-husband at around 2 a.m. that morning while at home at the MAA Glen apartment complex.
According to WSB-TV, police arrested Brandon Wineinger in connection with her disappearance. It’s not clear yet how the pair know each other, but online jail records indicate he’s been charged with “tampering with evidence, kidnapping, false statements or writings, and burglary.”
Officials with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that a body found off of Gwinnett County’s on Drowning Creek Road is that of Lafakis.
“There’s been no communication, that’s completely out of character for her,” her former husband, Stephen Lafakis, told Fox 5 Atlanta prior to the discovery.
“When I was texting with her, about 2 a.m. Friday morning, she was home and in bed. That was kind of the last time anybody knew she was here.”
Lafakis was supposed to have dinner with her daughter Friday evening, but when she didn’t show, family tried contacting her by phone, which has reportedly been shut off. Lafakis wasn’t home when her daughter went to check on her, but her vehicle was still there.
Neighbors told police that they didn’t see anything unusual.
