A Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, teacher is facing multiple charges after giving birth to a baby, allegedly fathered by a high school student.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Morgan Freche turned herself in Tuesday morning after police issued warrants for her arrest, in connection into sexual misconduct allegations with a male student.
Freche resigned last week from Loranger Middle School amid allegations she had a child with a 17-year-old boy. The allegations reportedly date back a few years, but not reported until September 24. The infant is now two months old.
Fox News Digital reports that Freche is facing one count of third-degree rape, four counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and one count of oral sexual battery.
The student’s lawyer, George R. Tucker, told NBC 6 that this is only the beginning of justice for the family.
“The next steps are to try now and see why this wasn’t something that was shared with the family by those who knew far prior to now,” Tucker said. “It’s become known that the family was notified twice, once by the family of the superintendent. The second time by two Loranger employees but was never reported.”
Tangipahoa Parish School System Superintendent Melissa Stilley replied by adding that the school district became aware of the allegations after “the mother of the student involved emailed me on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 4:04 p.m.”
Two days later, on September 26, Freche resigned from her position.
“While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were dealt with promptly, and the investigation process has been rigorous and thorough,” Sheriff Daniel Edwards said, following the allegations.
“This type of investigation is time-consuming and is being handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be rushed for closure.”
