A Maryland man was indicted on Thursday in the reported murder and dismemberment of a woman who vanished in July.
On July 31, suspect Harold Landon III, 33, was allegedly seen dumping an item at a Clinton pond where Mariame Sylla’s partial remains were found the following day. That witness photographed Landon, who arrived to the area in a pickup truck and washed his hands in the pond, according to WTOP.
On August 1, Sylla, 59, was reportedly found dismembered at the pond. WTOP reported that her head and neck were missing as she was decapitated at the collarbone. It was also alleged that she had bilateral amputations at her knees and shoulders.
Police said there is no known connection between Landon and Sylla. Landon was arrested on an unrelated domestic violence charge on August 1, the same day Sylla’s body was discovered.
A motive in Sylla’s slaying remains unclear. Landon is due back in court on October 27.
