An Ohio toddler fell into a neighbor’s pool last week and drowned while his mother slept inside the family home.
Anthony Hall told WTVG that he was at work while his two sons, 2-year-old Marcus Anthony Hall and his 4-year-old brother, were home with their mom. The kids got out of the house while the mom was sleeping, he said.
Just after 10:30 a.m., a neighbor called 911.
“There’s a baby outside in just a diaper chasing a dog,” the caller said. “There’s no adults.”
An officer arrived and spoke with the mother, telling her to be more careful and maybe install safety devices. An hour later, though, the mother called 911.
“I got woken up to the cops over here knocking on my door because they said that kids were running around outside, so when I woke up, only my 4-year-old here,” she said, acknowledging that Marcus Anthony was missing.
Officers went back to the neighborhood and found the toddler at the bottom of a neighbor’s pool. An officer jumped in and handed the boy off to another officer, who performed CPR as they raced to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
WTVG said the neighbor’s above ground pool was not surrounded by a fence, and a complaint had been filed with the city. Child services is also investigating.
