Arizona police are looking for a 32-year-old woman who disappeared after starting a cross-country trip from California to Connecticut.
Chelsea Grimm was last seen on September 28 in Williams, about 35 miles west of Flagstaff, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said. On October 5, hunters found her abandoned vehicle on a forest service road northeast of Ashfork in the Kaibab National Forest.
Grimm had been reported missing the day before the Phoenix Police Department.
Grimm’s parents, who live in Connecticut, reported her missing that day, KPNX reported, after not hearing from her for several days. Stephen and Janet Grimm said their daughter had set out from San Diego, with her pet bearded dragon, to visit with them and attend a wedding. But on September 27, she called and said she wasn’t going to make the wedding and had decided to camp for a few days in Arizona.
“She said ‘I think what I’m going to do is just take a couple of days and camp. And I’ll get back to you. Please don’t expect to hear from me for a couple of days,'” Janet Grimm said.
Stephen Grimm said it was “a little unusual” for Chelsea to make a spur of the moment decision to camp, but that she had plenty of camping experience.
Hunters called in Chelsea’s 2019 Ford Escape after noticing it on their way into the forest and then seeing it still there when they returned. The vehicle had two flat tires.
“Her pet was gone. Her wallet with her credit card and debit card, her driver’s license was gone. Some clothes, I’m assuming clothes, and a sleeping bag are gone,” Janet Grimm said.
Her camera was still in the car, and police posted some of the more recent photos from it.
Police have been searching the area on foot and by area, and so far, they don’t suspect foul play.
