A Delaware man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping an 11-year-old New Jersey girl he met playing an online video game last month.
Prosecutors in Passaic County say that Darius Matylewich and the girl met while playing on the gaming platform Roblox, the Wayne, New Jersey, Patch reported. The girl’s parents reported her missing shortly before 7 a.m. on September 10.
According to a release from Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes’ office, police found the victim “soon after she was reported missing” in Bear, Delaware, a suburb of Wilmington more than 130 miles from Wayne.
New Castle County police arrested Matylewich, 27, later that same day. Valdes said he took the girl “without the knowledge or consent of her parents.”
Matylewich was extradited this week to New Jersey, where he is charged with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors have filed a motion for pretrial detention, and a hearing has been set on the matter for October 16.
