Georgia police found a 7-month-old boy dead in an apartment strewn with trash and fecal matter — with four other children living in the unit.
Savannah police said they were called the apartment on September 27 by the child’s father, who said he had given the baby a bottle at about 3 p.m. then put him in a car seat upstairs, WSAV reported. When he checked on the boy a few hours later, he found him not breathing and called 911.
He brought the boy downstairs and began CPR at the instruction of the dispatcher.
Chatham County EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the boy dead. Medics told police that the child appeared malnourished.
Police said the other four children were sleeping on pieces of foam in the bedroom upstairs.
The parents said the boy did not have any preexisting medical conditions.
Homicide detectives and the Department of Family and Child Services launched investigations.
The boy’s body was taken to the Chatham County Coroner for an autopsy.
