A commercial fishing boat is missing off the coast of Georgia with its crew of an experienced captain and two crew members.
After setting out on October 14, Dalton Conway was expected to bring the 31-foot Carol Ann back into Brunswick last Wednesday, in time sell his catch on Thursday, but he didn’t return and has not been in contact with anyone on shore, The Brunswick News reported.
The US Coast Guard has been searching since family members and the boat’s owner reported the boat missing on Friday and were out on the waters again on Monday, searching mostly in an area about 80 miles offshore.
Also on board are Caleb Wilkinson and Tyler Barlow, said Stevie Conway, Dalton Conway’s sister and Wilkinson’s girlfriend.
“My brother goes anytime the weather is good,” Stevie Conway said. “This is his career. He does this for a living.”
Ryan Dickinson, with Coast Guard public affairs, told the News the search area was expanding and that they’d already covered nearly 30,000 square miles with 10 aircraft, three Coast Guard boats, and a state Department of Natural Resources boat.
Stevie Conway told WJAX that the search has been “absolutely terrifying.”
“We are sick to our stomachs,” she said. “Lots of tears and gatherings, getting together to try to uplift each other and stay positive whenever we’re all wanting to fall apart.”
