A Connecticut woman reported missing earlier in the day was found dead Saturday afternoon in the basement of a home in Willimantic.
The woman’s family contacted police at about 2 p.m. and said she had been missing and unaccounted for since mid-morning. They said they believed she was in Willimantic in eastern Connecticut. Police went to the home to check, but her car was no longer there, New England Cable News reported.
After a patrol officer found the vehicle at a nearby business, a police dog was brought in to track her. The K-9 led back to the home where family members thought the woman was.
Back at the home, investigators found the woman’s body in the basement. Investigators also said a suspect was seen fleeing the area as they arrived and was detained and arrested on unrelated charges.
“This is a deeply troubling case on many levels and one of the worst cases I have seen in 27 years in law enforcement,” Willimantic Police Chief Paul Hussey said in a statement.
Police released no further information about the case, including the victim’s name, the suspect’s name, or the charges faced by the suspect.
