On Monday, Joran van der Sloot will be moved back to a Peruvian prison — days after he confessed in an Alabama court to killing Natalee Holloway in 2005 and extorting her family.
AL.com reported that U.S. Marshals escorted van der Sloot, 36, from Shelby County Jail to Birmingham International Airport. Once in Peru, officials will take him into custody so he continue serving his 28-year sentence there for murdering Stephany Flores in 2010.

Van der Sloot was extradited to Alabama in June. As part of a plea deal, he confessed to killing Holloway so his 20-year sentence for extortion and wire fraud will be served concurrently with the 28-year sentence for Flores’ murder. In that case, van Der Sloot claimed the slaying occurred after Flores learned of his connection to Holloway’s murder.
The charges in Alabama stemmed from van der Sloot being paid $25,000 for information about Holloway’s whereabouts and demanding an additional $225,000 from Holloway’s family. Afterward, he provided a link to a website that he claimed detailed where Holloway’s remains were buried, but that was not the case.
Holloway, 18, vanished in Aruba in 2005 and her body was never found. In court, Van der Sloot admitted to bludgeoning Holloway to death with a cinderblock for rejecting his sexual advances and throwing her body in the ocean. A lie detector test determined he was truthful about the circumstances surrounding Holloway’s death.
