Missing 15-Year-Old ‘Runaway’ Was Actually Murdered By Maintenance Man & Dumped in Woods Behind Apartment

A 15-year-old Indiana girl who was reportedly found dead near her apartment on Wednesday was allegedly murdered and dumped there by a maintenance man who worked in her building.

Tevis Walker, 34, was arrested on Thursday, a day after Janiya Carr was found fatally shot in the woods near her Indianapolis apartment complex. Surveillance footage from October 29 showed Carr getting into a car with Walker an hour before than same car was seen driving to the wooded area where Carr’s body was discovered days later, according to WTHR.

Though Walker had several open warrants in Alabama and Georgia, he was recently hired to work at the apartment building where Carr lived.

Walker allegedly told cops that he picked up a girl and drove her several miles to buy a tablet. He claimed the person he was going to buy the tablet from was a no-show, so he drove the girl back to the apartment, according to WTTK.

Reports indicated that a woman walking her dog discovered Carr’s body.

The Indianapolis Star reported that Carr was initially classified as a runaway and a missing person alert was not issued during her disappearance. Carr’s mother had reported her missing two days before she was found dead.

Walker is facing murder charges. He remains jailed without bond.
