California police arrested a man Wednesday for killing his wife, whose dismembered torso was apparently found in a duffel bag in a strip mall dumpster, and in-laws, whose bodies have not been found.
Detectives believe Samuel Haskell IV, 35, killed his wife Mei Haskell, 35, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang and Gaoshen Li. The Los Angeles Times reported that the four lived together in Tarzana, and the couple’s three children were in school on Wednesday.
Investigators have not yet identified the remains found in the duffel bag but say they do belong to a woman.
“Attempts have been made to contact them by cell phone … no answers. Same with Mei, she is unaccounted for … attempts have been made to call her phone [and] still no answer,” Los Angeles police Detective Efren Gutierrez said, according to KABC.
A witness reported seeing what appeared to be body parts in bags outside the Haskells’ home on Tuesday, according to the Times, but by the time police arrived, the bags were gone.
A search of the Haskell’s home reportedly uncovered blood and other evidence of a murder and dismemberment. The home is located five miles from where the torso was discovered.
According to TMZ, Haskell is the son of Sam Haskell, a former Hollywood agent who is currently the president of Magnolia Hill Productions.
Haskell remains jailed on $2 million bail as the search for his missing wife and in-laws continues.
