A 16-year-old Nebraska girl was charged with murder for allegedly stabbing her newborn son to death last week.
On November 6, Gordon police responded to a home amid reports of a teen girl giving birth and her baby not breathing. Responding officers were met by the girl’s father — who stated that the baby was stillborn and “it was too late,” as CrimeOnline previously reported.
An officer who went to the bedroom reportedly observed the girl squatting by a door as her mother held a newborn wrapped in a towel. The mother accused her daughter of hurting her son before stating, “You can see the marks,” according to KOLN.
According to the news outlet, the baby’s throat was severed through his windpipe and he had multiple stab wounds on the left side of his chest.
The girls’ parents claimed they saw their daughter open a drawer containing a boning knife — which the father later discovered wrapped in a coat in her closet. KOLN reported that an officer observed blood on the blade of the knife.
The girl’s father reportedly found the newborn in an empty dog food bag in a closet. According to KLKN, police recovered blood-soaked clothes and towels from the home.
The teen girl, who has not been publicly identified, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. She is due in court on Thursday. It is unclear whether she is being charged as an adult.
