Whitley County police in Kentucky have arrested and charged a man and woman for the murder of a 4-year-old girl, last seen in September.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff Department, 24-year-old Brittany Slaughter and Adam Hayes, 34, both of Williamsburg, are facing charges that include murder, corpse abuse, and evidence tampering for the death of Chloe Darnel. Slaughter reportedly had custody of the child.
Both Slaughter and Chloe had been missing since September but were not reported missing until this week.
On Wednesday, police asked for public assistance in locating the suspects and their vehicle. They subsequently found Slaughter and the car on Thursday, but Chloe was not with her.
On Friday, investigators said they found a body believed to be Chloe in Whitley County. The State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort will conduct an autopsy and determine the official identity, police said.
“This is still an active investigation and further charges could be possible,” the sheriff’s department said on Facebook.
Both suspects remain behind bars.
