A gunman opened fire at an Ohio Walmart Monday night, wounding four people for killing himself.
Beavercreek Police said that the shooter walked into the store just after 8:30 p.m. and began firing. The four victims were all transported to area hospitals, and police had no information on their conditions.
Police also had no information about a possible motive and did not comment on the shooter’s identity. They offered “thoughts and prayers” to everyone involved.
The Dayton Daily News said that a CareFlight helicopter took one of the victims to the Miami Valley Hospital, while the other three were taken to Soin Medical Center-Kettering Health in Beavercreek.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting in the investigation.
The Beavercreek Walmart, in a Dayton suburb, was briefly closed on November 6 when a 15-year-old boy set a fire inside the store. The sprinkler system and firefighters extinguished the fire, and the boy faces arson charges.
The store was also the scene of the fatal shooting of John Crawford in 2014. A customer called police and told them a Black man was loading an automatic rifle and pointing it at customers, including children. Police arrived and gunned down Crawford, who was talking on his cell phone and carrying an unloaded pellet gun, for sale at the store. Surveillance footage showed he never once pointed the gun at anyone.
A grand jury declined to indict the two officers involved in the shooting, but the city of Beavercreek later settled a wrongful death suit with his family, WHIO reported.
Another person died from a heart attack she had while fleeing the officers’ gunfire.
It was also the second Walmart shooting in as many days in the United States. Two people were shot and killed at a store in Anchorage, Alaska, on Sunday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. That suspect is still at large.
