A Florida mom has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she drove her SV into her own son while trying to hit two other boys he was fighting with.
An arrest report for Quantavia Miltanise Samuel, 33, said that her son called her at about 6 p.m. on Monday and told her two other boys had jumped him, and one of them was armed with a handgun, WTVJ reported.
Samuel jumped in her Toyota Rav4 and drove to the scene, where she saw her son fighting with the other two boys and drove toward the melee. But instead of hitting her intended targets, she rammed her son. The other two boys took off running with Samuel pursuing them after she helped her son into her vehicle.
She followed the boys to their home, where Miami Police were called. At that point, Samuel’s son complained of leg and hip pain, and he was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s pediatric emergency room for treatment, the arrest report said.
“According to the defendant, when she arrived in the area of the aforementioned intersection, she struck her son with the Toyota Rav4 SUV she was operating,” the arrest report said. “When asked how she managed to strike her son with the vehicle, the defendant stated ‘I was trying to get them off my son.'”
Miami Police spokesperson Michael Vega said officers found no gun involved in the altercation.
“She wanted to hit these two kids,” Vega said. “This is what we say all the time, if there’s a problem like this, the correct thing would have been that she call the police and then she can respond, which if we would have been there, we would have prevented this.”
Samuel was booked into jail on a $15,000 bond. Vega said the Department of Children and Families was also called to investigate.
