New Hampshire Man Charged With Stabbing 70-Year-Old Mother to Death

A New Hampshire man has been charged with the murder of his mother, who was found dead at her home in Goffstown on Tuesday.

Linda Tufts, 70, died from multiple stab wounds, police said, according to WBZ. Her son, 47-year-old Thomas Humphrey, was also found with stab wounds and taken to the hospital.

Police now believe he tried to kill himself after murdering his mother.

Responding officers also found a fire in the home and extinguished it.

All documents and affidavits in the case have been sealed, and Humphrey is expected in court on Monday, WMUR reported.

“We typically do that in homicide investigations, because even though an arrest has been made, such as in this case, the investigation is active and ongoing, and police still have additional witnesses they want to interview, and we want to make sure those interviews and the process itself, its integrity, is maintained,” said Senior Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley. “So, that’s why we typically seal the arrest affidavits, and we typically unseal them after indictment, which is about three months.”
